Blue Star Jets, a New-York based private jet rental service has launched an app that lets anyone book a charter flight from a smartphone within 15 minutes. With this application’s launch, the company expects to double its sales over the next five years.

Charter flights were initially enjoyed only by the elite few. Still, in a bid to democratize private jet travel, Blue Star is offering round-trip flights from Teterboro, NJ, to north-east destinations like Portland, ME on a 7-seat Hawker 400XP for as less as $15,000. In comparison, a group of seven renting out a La Guardia on United Airlines will have to jointly shell out $8,636 to fly out Friday afternoon to Portland and coming back on Monday evening.

The discounted pricing may increase if the customer decides to perk up his flight, say ask Nobu on the plane or wish for a Suburban or a Tesla when they arrive. a Suburban or a Tesla when they arrive.

Blue Star is a brokerage with a global network of more than 5,000 Cessna turboprops, Gulfstreams, cargo jets, helicopters, and air ambulances. It doesn’t sell partial ownership stakes in jets or sublease them out for a specified number of hours. Customers using Blue Star have to reserve an entire plane and cannot book a single seat. Yet, president Todd Rome says that clients enjoy more flexibility while booking different flights for different reasons.
