Within the aviation industry, there are many ways of getting an upgrade, with most passengers happy to make sure they are given a seat in first class from their headquarters in the main cabin. However, Delta Airlines is now hoping to change the way we see upgrades by offering its elite customers the chance to upgrade to a full private jet experience.

Delta Private Jets already offer a small number of plane charter options across the east coast. The upgraded seats available would be shown on flights with empty seats scheduled to fly between designated locations.

Delta Airlines is hoping that the chance to offer a private jet charter for just a small fee to flyers who are already elite members of the Sky Miles program will lead to Delta private jet’s receiving more long term business. The upgrades will not be offered for free, as they are when a passenger is pushed forward from the main cabin to first class. Instead, a fee of between $300 and $800 will be charged for the upgrade, which will see an elite Delta member complete their catered flight on a Cessna or Gulfstream in the highest level of luxury possible.

Delta has recently been placing a large focus on its private jet charter business, but this is the first time a major member of the aviation industry has decided to move its passengers to a private jet. These upgrades first became available in July 2015 and will continue to be offered throughout the summer as Delta looks to attract new business fliers to its private jet business. It is thought many private jet flights take place with empty seats, which will now be filled with passengers who may form the basis of the business in the future.
