In one of the world’s most populous countries, JetSetGo has emerged to become one of India’s most famous private jet charter companies. So popular that the company recently secured funding from favourite Indian cricket player Yuvraj Singh’s YouWeCan Ventures. Today, the plane charter company caters to wealthy clients, such as the Italian Ferragamo family and hospitals requiring air ambulance assistance. CEO Kanika Tekriwal has the company progressing in a promising direction since India contains 12 % of the world’s market share in private jet ownership.
In 2012 Tekriwal began exploring the market for private jet charter in India’s aviation industry. She found that even though the cost of the private jet charter could cost tens of thousands of dollars, wealthy Indian business people, politicians and industrialists were willing to pay. India has over 200 airports in the country; however, only about 80 are serviced by airline flights. That’s where JetSetGo provides the luxury to those who need to fly to these remote, less serviced locations at a specified time.

However, a private jet charter is not only a luxury, but quite often, it is a legitimate business necessity. If one wishes to travel via a commercial airline, then that traveller is subjected to timetables that are not tailored to that specific traveller’s needs. Instead, the commercial airline passenger is forced to work around the airline’s schedule. This may be sufficient for the leisure traveller; however, for the wealthy business owner time is almost as valuable as money.

Tekriwal and aviation industry experts are forecasting an expanding market for companies like JetSetGo. Tekriwal is expecting India to be at the top of private jet charter demand within the next decade. Despite some bureaucratic obstacles facing India’s plane charter industry, the future for this emerging niche in an increasingly maturing economy is promising.
