The aviation industry is taking a hit for being a significant contributor to global warming. The industry releases more CO2 that is needed. However, experts are working on ways to minimize the release of this gas.

Planes use a lot of oil, and their fuel efficiency is very low. Many planes are being remodelled from a four-engined airliner to a twin-jet aircraft. Experts are also looking into using another liquefied natural gas in the place of Kerosene. Although this would decrease the number of chemicals expelled, there would be much work to design aircraft to use this type of fuel.

NASA is also working to create a hybrid plane to run on both fuel and electricity. However, this type of aircraft will not be completed and ready for passenger flight for decades.

Another reason planes are so destructive to the environment is the material they are made of. The average plane is made of aluminium. This metal is far too heavy to be fuel-efficient. Slowly but surely, aluminium is being replaced with a robust and hard plastic. The plastic releases more carbon dioxide while it is being produced, but reduces emissions so much while in use that the benefits outweigh the flaws…

Planes, for the most part, have not changed their look in over half a century. This could be another factor contributing to the emissions that they release. Experts are looking to design planes more aerodynamically like removing the cockpit, for example. Pilots would work off of cameras. The CO2 emissions would reduce, though.

So what does this mean for people who want to fly charter planes or private jet charters? Well, there will be more subsidies to the airline industry, thus dropping the prices. This will encourage more people to fly. Therefore, private plane fliers may have to share a plane.
